Hey Lovelies! Today I am deeply saddened and outraged after hearing about the Jussie Smollett hate crime occurrence. Though I don’t know Jussie personally, what I’ve witnessed about his character is an individual who is kind, gentle, strong, talented, and resilient. I’m glad to have learned through news reports that his condition is stable, but my thoughts now linger around his justice because this was an attempted modern-day lynching. News flash, no one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin in this day and age; sadly, we do….
Will this hate be truly confronted and in a timely manner? Or will this be another justified, dragged-out/under the rug type ordeal? My heart breaks for Jussie because he’s incredibly gifted, but most importantly he’s KIND and KIND-HEARTED! It’s ridiculous that someone like him had to fall victim to nonsense like this. My hope is that after his justice, @jussiesmollett turns this hate into a situation of love, because love will forever TRUMP hate! #loveTRUMPShate!
I think about those who aren’t as nearly fortunate as Jussie, those who aren’t famous or in the public eye who have endured similar hate crime encounters, but their story isn’t told or doesn’t make the news. Have they received their justice? Will their story be told?
In his Where Do We Go From Here? speech, delivered in 1967 in Atlanta Georgia, King uttered these famous words:
What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and that love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love. And this is what we must see as we move on.
Dear Trump, get a clue and use your power with love. Our country is hurting, badly. This is unacceptable. We didn’t come this far, to only get this far and revert back. I smile because I am hopeful for better days, and we, God’s children will not be shaken…..
Peace and Forever Blessings,
