“I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles.” – Audrey Hepburn

Hey Lovelies! It crossed my mind how we (FEMALES) assume resilience like none other — the kind that allows you to face racism and sexism and ageism and classism and heterosexism on a daily basis while still maintaining sanity and health. I contemplated that for a bit and smiled. At that moment, I realized how much I love that part of the strength that FEMALES have had to and do have. That strength is real!

I often think about my mother’s grandmother and my lineage beyond that. I’m unsure of their exact circumstances entirely, but I’m willing to bet that life wasn’t a breeze in that day and age. Though we’ve evolved as a country, life is still a struggle in many ways, but I know I have tons to be grateful for.

What about you? Do you ever think about walking a day in our previous generations’ shoes? Throughout the years, females had no other choice but to prove their strength and independence – their life literally depended on it. Surely, these amazingly strong ladies paved the way significantly for our freedom and rights, and those contributions substantially impacted government, business, military, and various other aspects in positions and power.

BUT, the gag is….. There are still several oppressed women around the world.

I had a conversation the other day surrounding this topic that blew my mind. Remember when social media wasn’t a thing and the only way you’d really know what the next person was up to or accomplishing was through actually having a conversation with that individual in-person or whatever type of communication used? OR, maybe it was your grandmother or mother being a braggart (with the best intentions in mind) telling “auntie and dem” about all the outstanding happenings in your life. Point being, accomplishments weren’t as visual and instantaneous for the world to witness. Goals reached were celebrated organically! BUT, I’m willing to bet that much of our oppression stems from the RIGHT NOW type of lifestyle we live.

The excessive use of social media plays a major role in much of our mental health, behaviors, and social relationships. Ironically, the very platform meant for good,  meant to create opportunities, and advance our lives is also partly responsible for the negative components of our day-to-day.

Surely I’m no expert, but on a personal note, I’ve got countless evidence of this! While this point isn’t meant to entirely spiral down that road, it saddens me to witness the progression made from our ancestors almost regressing. I  speak loud and clear to myself as I type this, but we really need to make some SEVERE changes in our lives. Why is suicide a go-to option nowadays when those before us died to have better lives! Did our grandmother’s grandmothers die in vain?

Whatever it is WE need to do, wherever it is WE find our strength, WHOEVER is YOUR SOURCE, stick to it and dig out of it! WE ARE FEMALES! WE ARE STRONG! WE GOT THIS!

Peace and Forever Blessings,
